Welcome to my second column here at Chops From Hell. This time I have some pentatonic idea's for you.

Idea One:

The first lick is a lick in C# minor pentatonic. Ascending I use a legato style to climb the ladder, descending I use the pentatonic blues scale (I add a b5 to the scale) and I use legato style as well. The highest note of the lick I tap with my ring finger from my right hand.

Idea Two:

The second lick is from a song of my solo-CD "Guitartalk". The song is called "Independence Day". The time signature in the song is 13/8. I use a pentatonic minor blues scale in this lick, the key is B minor. If the lick is played fast it sounds like an arpeggio. I only use legato style and tapping in the lick, no sweep picking is involved here.

Marcel also made a solo album in 1999 ("Guitartalk") which has been rereleased now also by Lion Music with three extra songs and remastering. Marcel is currently working on his second solo album with his new solo band. Also Marcel is very busy with his band Sun Caged.
